We are officially working with India’s Akshaya Patra Foundation. This organization’s mission is to eradicate hunger and promote education — two cornerstones of the Collette Foundation’s mission. Our friends at this organization explain that:
It costs $15 to feed a child daily for the entire school year with government subsidy. For many of the children this is their only complete meal for the day. This gives them an incentive to come to school, stay in school and provides them with the necessary nutrients they need to develop their cognitive abilities to focus on learning.
The organization currently distributes cooked, healthy meals daily to 1.3 million underprivileged children in 9,000 government schools through 19 kitchens in eight states in India.
The Collette Foundation kicked off its partnership with funds that will be used to provide meals for an entire year to 240 children attending Government Upper Primary School in Amer, Jaipur.
We are so excited for the new project in India! In a recent letter, our new partners expressed this kind message to officially kick things off:
Thank you for recognizing our efforts to build a more just world that bridges the divide between the haves and the have-nots. We take a great deal of pride in partnering with your foundation and look forward to hearing about your visits.
