Journeys Within Our Community, Cambodia
Since its start in 2005, Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC) has positively impacted the lives of children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. With a mission to reduce poverty levels and increase educational opportunities for the community, this organization has truly inspired social change in Southeast Asia.
A Place to Gather
Our partnership with JWOC began in 2009 with our funding of the building of a community center. The center was built with the help of the local community and was completed in 12 weeks. This center has, in fact, become a center for all JWOC activities. Here, the children have access to showers and bathrooms, English-speaking classes, as well as dance classes for both children and young adults.
Access to Clean Water & Education
The Collette Foundation funded a reed pond for JWOC, which sends oxygen into the gravel and pulls out some of the pollutants as the water travels through. The end result is water that is clean enough to be used and consumed safely by the community. We also funded the installation of wells, built to replace simple holes in the ground that fill with rainwater. The wells provide the community with cleaner, safer water. We have also been a longtime supporter of JWOC’s Free Classes Program, which provides disadvantaged students educational opportunities to help them build better futures.
