Koroipita Village, Fiji
Just outside of Lautoka, Fiji, you will find a tiny settlement called Koroipita. Established by Peter Drysdale in 1999, Koroipita is made up of low-income earners who have in the past been homeless. With help from the tourism community, Koroipita has been able to eliminate unbearable living conditions by building model townships that provide residents a home with all the other essentials to provide a safe environment for families.
Giving Children a Safe Childhood
In the past 10 years, the project at Koroipita has provided 84 homes to families in need. The community also has provided the villagers with a day care center, bakery, safe parks, an arts and craft center, a grade school to give children access to an education, vegetable gardens, and more.
A Place to Call Home
Funds provided by the Collette Foundation are being used to build cyclone-proof homes complete with a kitchen, shower and toilet. We are also funding the building of a concrete multi-court that will provide the children in Koroipita with a major recreational venue to promote better overall wellness. The court would be used for sports and youth activities.
I would do some volunteer work with the students at the settlement. Kindly please inform me of the procedures to take for this.
