Akshaya Patra – India
In the heart of Jaipur, India lies the Akshaya Patra Foundation. This organization’s mission is to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in India, as well as promote education for children in need. Our partnership with this wonderful nonprofit began in 2012 supporting a meal program that provided daily breakfast and lunch to 240 children attending Government Upper Primary School in Amer, Jaipur.
Striking Out Hunger in India
It costs $15 to feed a child daily for the entire school year with government subsidy. In many cases, the meal these children receive at school will be their only complete meal for the day. This meal is not only their sustenance… it is their incentive to attend school and stay in school. The food provides them with the necessary nutrients needed to develop their cognitive abilities and focus on learning.
Making a Difference
Akshaya Patra currently distributes cooked, healthy meals daily to 1.3 million underprivileged children in 9,000 government schools through 19 kitchens in eight states in India. We are so proud to continue this partnership and help them impact the lives of children all over India who deserve the opportunity to thrive.
